Thank you for your interest in joining the worship team here at Impact! It is a great calling that demands a level of sacrifice, but also provides great rewards. The Bible has much to say about worship and we believe corporate worship to be a crucial and foundational element to our vibrant church body. Becoming a worship team member is a significant undertaking, and although the goal of the Worship Director, the worship team and the Pastoral team is inclusion and facilitation, there are some important eligibility requirements each worship team applicant must meet before becoming a team member.
1. Love for God and a hunger for the things of God – Psalm 84:1-2; 1 Corinthians 10:31
At Impact we strongly believe in “character before gifting”. We believe that before a person can be on the worship team that it is vital that they have a strong love for God and a commitment to follow Him!
2. Commitment to spiritual growth – 1 Corinthians 3:1-3; 1 Peter 2:1-5; Hebrews 5:12-14; Ephesians 4:14-15; Philippians 1:9
Just as we grow and mature physically, we are to grow and mature spiritually as well. Worship team members need to continually purpose to grow and mature in their faith.
3. Have received or seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues – Matthew 3:11; Acts 2:1-4; Ephesians 5:18-19
Here at Impact we invite the Holy Spirit to lead and guide our worship times. This is often referred to as “Spirit-led worship”. In order for Spirit-led worship to happen, each member of the worship team needs to be “in-tune” with the Holy Spirit, and be willing to follow where He is leading. For this reason we believe it is imperative that each member of the worship team needs to have received or is seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit and practice a Spirit-filled life so that we can lead the church into Spirit-filled worship!
4. Musical skill – 1 Chronicles 15:22; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Psalm 66:2
It is important that each member have a certain level of skill in order to take part in the worship team. Excellence does not mean that we have to be perfect, but a worship team member needs to have musical skill in order to fit and flow with the rest of the team. The Worship Director will assume responsibility for deciding whether or not a candidate has a minimum level of competency and this takes place through an audition.
5. Commitment to team rehearsals and meetings – Acts 2:1; Psalm 133; Acts 2:46
Each member is expected to commit to being at rehearsals, team meetings and special functions.
6. Commitment to working in a team environment – 1 Corinthians 12:12-26; Ephesians 4:1-3; Philippians 2:1-3
Maintaining a true team environment is a vital component to a healthy worship team. Every member is vitally important and unity of the team will go a long way in creating a place where the Presence of God will dwell!
